Take Control Of Your Health Through Food

Improve your relationship with Food

Eating well is not just about what you actually eat, it’s also about your relationship with food and your body. A dietitian can guide you through how to change your mindset around food, and nutrition so you can experience life the way you deserve to!

Non-diet approach to food

A non diet approach means that you don’t have to worry about diets or restrictions to help you achieve your goals. Instead, we want to provide intuitive eating, which is listening to your body while developing a positive attitude to food

Female Focused Accredited Practising Dietitian

Whether your goals are around feeling stronger in your everyday life, feeling more confident managing a chronic health condition, or navigating a new stage in life, I want to guide you and empower you to reach your full potential.

At Big Sis Nutrition, I believe a healthy relationship with food starts mentally as much as physically, which is why we recommend working with an APD when faced by these challenges.

If you need nutritional advice for a specific women’s health condition, a dietitian is the most qualified expert to assist you.

Live a better life

At Big Sis Nutrition, like our name we promise to offer you care as if you were our family. Our greatest focus is on client centred care, to really listen to you as an individual, and to work together to reach all your health goals.

Consultation Process

Seeing a face to face or virtual dietitian often involves a few sessions. All consultations at Big Sis nutrition are conducted online. An initial consultation at Big Sis Nutrition takes 60 minutes, and will be the most detailed of your sessions with the dietitian. Here are the steps to get you started on the right nutrition for your lifestyle.

1. Initial Consultation

During the initial consultation, the dietitian will go through things such as your medical history and what your day to day routine looks like. This will help the dietitian to make the best changes that suit you, and fit in with your lifestyle. All information that is discussed during your appointment is safe and confidential.

2. After Consultation

It is recommended that you follow the plan given to you by your dietitian as best as possible after your consultation. Support is available throughout this period, so speak to your dietitian if you have any concerns or questions between appointments.

3. Follow Up Consultations

During the follow up, you will go through your experiences with your dietitian. Factors such as comfort with making the changes suggested and overall health will be assessed. Your dietitian will make suggestions to further improve your current situation, and help you on your journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

You only need to bring yourself to your online appointment! Prior to your consultation, a dietitian will send you a pre-consultation questionnaire to complete and send back. If your dietitian requires anything else prior to consultation, you will be notified via email or a phone call.

It is a progressive process. Each consultation you have, you will feel closer to reaching your goals. Dietitians offer individualised advice for each client. There is no “one size fits all” with treatment, so there is no timeline for when one might see results.

Once you and your dietitian believe that you are confident in navigating your food and nutrition, and meeting your original goals, this is a good indication that you are getting results.

The cost for seeing a dietitian in Melbourne may vary. If you have private health insurance, some of the costs of your consultation may be covered depending on your level of extras cover. Make sure you check your private health fund first to make sure you are covered. Medicare also offers a rebate for dietetics consultation if you have a care plan from your GP.

For the best results, dietitians make a handful of changes to your current diet, to make sure they are achievable, to ensure that these changes turn into habits. Depending on your situation a dietitian may be able to give you an idea of what an ideal day for you might look like but this is best done together.

Anyone can see a dietitian!

Depending on your age, condition and stage in life, a dietitian can help you improve your wellbeing through expert advice. Some of them include:

  • Those trying to conceive
  • Those following a vegan/vegetarian diet in pregnancy
  • People with specific health conditions (IBS, IBD, endometriosis or PCOS)
  • People looking to improve their relationship with food

Eating disorders can be tough to deal with, but there are ways to overcome it. If you have an eating disorder or body image concern, you can contact me via email to find out how we can assist you and guide you in the right direction.

Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs) are uniquely qualified to providing tailored nutrition advice for medical conditions – called ‘Medical Nutrition Therapy’, according to the definition by DA (Dietitians Australia). More from DA here.

A dietitian has to complete an accredited dietetics course from Dietitians Australia (DA), the governing body for dietitians, as well as been supervised in clinical practice and deemed as competent and safe to practice, building up practical skills to put theory into practice.

There is no regulation over who can call themselves a nutritionist. Every dietitian is qualified as a nutritionist, but not every nutritionist is a dietitian.
